Plasma Pen Therapy in Fort Washington, PA

WHAT IS PLASMA PEN THERAPY?

Dermatology and Skin Cancer Institute is pleased to offer our patients Plasma Pen Therapy, also known as Plasma Fibroblast Therapy, as an updated alternative to other, more invasive skin tightening techniques. This new technology allows our practitioners to use a plasma pen, which uses plasma to treat deep layers of the skin and simultaneously stimulate new, youthful growth on the surface. In this procedure, similar effects to more invasive procedures, such as a facelift, are able to be achieved without surgery, anesthesia, or major recovery time. In addition, the plasma pen is a small, portable device that can be used to target any area of your body that you are hoping to rejuvenate with tighter, bouncier skin.

WHO IS AN IDEAL CANDIDATE?

This treatment can be used to address a variety of skin concerns brought on by external damage and aging. Individuals who find that their skin is producing less and less collagen and thus becoming more fragile and thin may especially be interested in pursuing this treatment as a way to increase bounciness and smoothness. Other reasons for getting Plasma Pen Therapy often include:

  • A highly focused, precise therapy that targets exactly the areas of interest
  • Lower risk of damage to other dermal tissues
  • A pain-free, scar-free procedure that allows for an immediate return to activities
  • Safe, effective way to treat skin concerns without any additional chemicals or treatments

If you have pre-existing or temporary conditions, such as pregnancy, autoimmune disorders, or use certain topical skin treatments, be sure to notify your practitioner so as to determine how the Plasma Pen Therapy may best suit your individual needs.

HOW IS THIS TREATMENT PERFORMED?

Plasma Pen Therapy utilizes a small, pen-like device to treat the surface of the target skin through microabrasion. In the first step of the procedure, your technician will first cleanse the skin to remove any particles of dust, dirt, or makeup which may interfere with the process and disinfect the area of interest, after which a numbing cream will be applied to the target area. The pen emits a small arc of plasma, known as a fibroblast, to make microscopic wounds (micro-abrasions). As these micro-abrasions heal, the fibroblasting creates opportunities for stimulating new collagen growth, leaving you with a fresher, tighter, and more youthful skin without any long-term scars, bruising, or incisions. You can expect your initial procedure to last about an hour-long; however, the procedure time and results may vary. Contact your provider at Dermatology and Skin Cancer Insitute today to set up a consultation for finding out how Plasma Pen Therapy can best suit your specific skin needs.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?

While recovery time and healing may vary from person to person, Plasma Pen Therapy generally yields a very minimal healing process, and you should be able to return to normal daily activities immediately following your treatment. For the first week or so after your procedure, you will want to treat your skin with gentle cleansers to avoid any bacterial build-up, as well as avoid harsh chemicals or sun exposure during the healing process. Your practitioner will discuss with you the various factors involved in recovery, as well as any follow-up or touch-up treatments you may wish to consider.
