How should I stimulate collagen after my skin no longer makes it?

As a person ages, their body produces less collagen. This lack of collagen results in the common signs of aging. Wrinkles, sagging skin that has lost its elasticity, and stiff joints are all signs that the body is producing less collagen.

Antioxidants such as SkinAestheticsMD Vitamin C Serum and SkinAestheticsMD Triple Antioxidant Cream, as well as SkinAestheticsMD Retinol Serum stimulate collagen production in the skin. Collagen production can be boosted even more with certain procedures. In order to repair damaged collagen and stimulate the body to make new collagen, we recommend microneedling treatments, photofacial treatments, and dermal fillers.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scarring, and sagging skin. The addition of radiofrequency energy to the microneedling procedure helps to further stimulate the body’s natural collagen and healing processes revealing firmer, tighter, rejuvenated skin.

Photofacial or IPL collagen stimulation therapy works by introducing intermittent pulses of laser light to the skin. This light passes through the upper layers of the skin, which in turn leaves the healthy tissue unharmed. When it reaches the lower layers where the collagen structures reside, it causes the tissue to vibrate. This undesirable tissue is then removed by the body. This allows the body to initiate the healing process, which in turn allows it to stimulate collagen production and improve the look of the skin.

The second way a Photofacial stimulates collagen is by encouraging blood flow to treated areas. The excess heat is absorbed by the surrounding tissue. While this heat tends to be insufficient to cause damage, it does cause the blood vessels to expand. This results in an increased blood flow, which in turn ensures that collagen can be produced at an increased rate.

The last major way involves the other effects of initiating the body’s repair process. Once the old, less dense collagen structures are removed, the body tends to be better able to produce new collagen cells after the new tissue has been created. This results in a general improvement to the firmness and texture of skin for a prolonged period following successful IPL therapy.

The hyaluronic acid fillers stimulate collagen production by stretching the collagen-producing cells known as fibroblasts. These fillers not only make your skin look better immediately, but they also create thicker skin due to increased collagen production.

Using these procedures in combination is synergistic, and gives an even better result! Call us to schedule a consultation appointment to get a customized treatment plan!!
