While the holidays may not be a direct cause of hair loss, the stress they inflict can certainly lead to diffuse hair shedding.
Stretch Mark Treatments in Fort Washington, PA
ABOUT STRETCH MARK TREATMENT
Stretch marks are very common, and most people will develop a few somewhere on their body sooner or later. The most common areas to develop stretch marks are parts of the body that tend to gain weight the quickest, such as the breasts, thighs, love handles, buttocks, hips, stomach, and arms. As new stretch marks are developing, they can often be quite itchy, due to the stretching of the skin. Further, men and women with pale skin may develop stretch marks that are more visible. At Spa 361 at the Dermatology and Skin Cancer Institute, we can help reduce the visibility of your stretch marks, as well as some other types of scars, with microneedling treatments.
Microneedling, sometimes referred to as collagen induction, creates micro-trauma deep within the dermis of your skin, which in turn triggers your body to create more collagen and elastin to heal itself. We use the Eclipse MicroPen, the SkinPen, or the Dermapen microneedling device to treat areas of stretch marks or other scars to stimulate the growth of new, undamaged skin.

IDEAL CANDIDATES
Virtually anyone with stretchmarks, acne scars, or surgical scars can be a candidate for microneedling treatments. If you are pregnant or using acne medication, however, be sure to mention this in your consultation, as they can be restricting factors.
You may have developed stretch marks due to pregnancy, rapid weight gain, or a growth spurt. Certain medications, such as corticosteroids, may also lead to stretch marks. Microneedling treatments at Spa 361 at the Dermatology and Skin Cancer Institute can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks whether they are light or dark in color and whether they are old or new. Microneedling can also work to reduce the appearance of acne scars and surgical scars.
TREATMENT TECHNIQUE
Microneedling treatments for stretchmarks and scars are performed in a private treatment room in our Fort Washington and Lansdale, PA locations. They can last from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on several factors, including the size of the treatment area and which microneedling device is used. During your procedure, the device will be evenly moved over the treatment area to create the micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries trigger your body’s natural healing process, including the generation of collagen and elastin, and cell turnover.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Microneedling is a noninvasive procedure, so you will be able to get right back to your regular routine afterward. Depending on the size of the treatment area and the degree of treatment, your skin may be red and swollen for a couple of days. These treatments work by increasing the levels of collagen and elastin in your skin, so it takes some time to start to see results — typically 1 – 2 months. Most patients do need several treatments to get their best results. During your consultation, we’ll discuss how many sessions you might need, depending on the depth and severity of your stretch marks or scarring.
REGAIN SMOOTHER SKIN
Though practically everyone has some stretch marks or other scars, some can be in more visible areas, such as the face or areas of the body not covered by clothing or a bathing suit. If you have stretch marks or scars that cause you to feel self-conscious, microneedling could be the solution you’re looking for. Contact Spa 361 at the Dermatology and Skin Cancer Institute to schedule your consultation to learn more.
