While the holidays may not be a direct cause of hair loss, the stress they inflict can certainly lead to diffuse hair shedding.
Sclerotherapy in Fort Washington, PA
ABOUT SCLEROTHERAPY
Spider veins, also called telangiectasia, are usually purple, blue, or red and may become easily visible through the skin as they grow in branching patterns on the face and legs. Varicose veins are larger, swollen veins, also blue or purple, that can look lumpy or “twisted” under the skin. They are most common on the thighs and lower legs. Both varicose and spider veins may be caused by obesity, genetics, hormonal changes, blood clots, and certain medications and medical conditions. At Spa 361 at the Dermatology and Skin Cancer Institute, led by board-certified dermatologist Dr. Aradhna Saxena, we offer sclerotherapy to reduce or eliminate the appearance of spider and varicose veins on the face and body. A minimally invasive treatment with no required recovery period, sclerotherapy can help you get an even, vein-free skin tone that you can show off in short shorts. Schedule a consultation with us today at our Lansdale, PA location to learn more about nonsurgical sclerotherapy.
IDEAL CANDIDATES
Sclerotherapy is best for patients who have small- to medium-sized blood vessels (spider veins) or varicose veins that are visible through the skin of their face and body. Typically, spider veins and varicose veins are most prominent on the thighs and lower legs, so patients might avoid wearing shorts, swimsuits, or other clothing that doesn’t cover them. Spider veins can also appear on the face. Sclerotherapy patients should be in good general health before their treatment to avoid complications or reactions. Patients should not be pregnant or have a history of blood clots.
PROCEDURE TECHNIQUE
Sclerotherapy can be performed quickly in one of our private treatment rooms without any anesthesia. The spider or varicose veins being treated will be identified, and the skin will be sanitized with alcohol. A fine-gauge needle will be inserted into the vein, and the sclerosing solution will be injected. After the injection, a bandage will be applied to the site to stop any minor bleeding. This process will be repeated until all the veins have been treated.
WHAT TO EXPECT
After sclerotherapy, you will be able to leave to resume all your normal activities. You may notice some swelling, redness, or bruising in the treated areas, but this should subside naturally. Compression garments will be recommended to help your blood circulation after your treatment for faster, better results. It can take 1 – 4 months for the sclerosing solution to work, but eventually, the treated veins will shrink, turn white, and then fade or disappear. For varicose veins, you may need two or more treatments to achieve optimal results, but most spider vein patients are pleased with their improvements after one treatment.
