Neuromodulator Injection- BOTOX® in Fort Washington, PA

ABOUT BOTOX

BOTOX injections, also known as neuromodulator injections, are currently one of the most popular treatments for individuals who are starting to notice dynamic lines and wrinkles in the forehead and brow areas. Dynamic lines (vs. static lines) are created when we make certain facial expressions, such as frowning and squinting, repeatedly over a long period of time. After a certain point, these creases or wrinkles will remain visible even when we aren’t making a specific expression.

BOTOX injections contain a purified strain of type A botulinum toxin that relaxes the target facial muscles to stop them from contracting. Stopping the contractions (i.e., squinting and frowning) for long enough allows the skin on top of the muscles to become smooth again. As long as the muscles are relaxed, the dynamic creases shouldn’t reappear. Dr. Aradhna Saxena and the providers at Spa 361 at the Dermatology and Skin Cancer Institute, have extensive experience with botox injections so that you get significant natural-appearing improvement.

Over time, neuromodulators shrink the muscles so continued use helps the lines and wrinkles appear less severe over time.

At Spa 361 at the Dermatology and Skin Cancer Institute, Dr. Aradhna Saxena and her professional medical staff provide BOTOX treatments to men and women in the Greater Philadelphia area. If you are considering having your first injections, schedule your appointment with us today at our Fort Washington, PA or Lansdale, PA offices. We use the neuromodulator brands Xeomin and Dysport as we feel they allow us to safely achieve the best results for our patients.

IDEAL CANDIDATES

BOTOX is ideal for individuals who want to nonsurgically smooth the appearance of dynamical lines in the upper portion of the face. BOTOX is also becoming more and more popular among younger patients who wish to use it as a preventive treatment.

Spa 361 at the Dermatology and Skin Cancer Institute also offers Xeomin injections as an equally effective alternative to BOTOX. Unlike BOTOX and Dysport, Xeomin does not contain any additives, so it might be a great option for patients who have developed antibodies to these additives.

BOTOX injections treat dynamic lines caused by facial expression. Which areas of the face have dynamic lines? Crow’s feet – fine lines that start at the corners of the eyes and extend laterally on the temples – can be treated with botox. Flattened or drooping eyebrows can be gently lifted with botox. Furrows between the eyebrows, the “11s” can be diminished with botox. Horizontal forehead lines can be greatly softened with botox. Dr. Aradhna Saxena specializes in botox treatment and can advise you on the best treatment areas for you.

If you have deeper lines or significant volume loss, an injectable filler may be recommended

PROCEDURE TECHNIQUE

BOTOX injections are performed as an outpatient procedure at both Spa 361 at the Dermatology and Skin Cancer Institute locations. If it is your first time to visit us in Fort Washington or Lansdale, PA for BOTOX, we may perform the injection during the same appointment as your consultation. You will be asked to make various facial expressions using the upper face, such as squinting, frowning, etc., which will allow us to mark where the injections need to be placed. Your skin will be cleansed, and then your aesthetician or medical professional will inject the BOTOX with a fine needle. This will be followed by a cold compress to help decrease discomfort, swelling, and bruising. You can request a numbing cream to make the procedure more comfortable, but it generally is not necessary. BOTOX injections typically take about 10 – 15 minutes, and you can return to your normal activities almost right away.

WHAT TO EXPECT

After the injection, you can resume your typical activities, but strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least 24 hours. You will be asked to sleep upright for the first night and to not touch your face, which may accidentally cause the BOTOX to spread to other areas. Your injection areas may be slightly bruised, red, or swollen for a few days, but you will not experience any severe or lasting side effects. In most cases, it takes about 5 – 7 days before the full effects of BOTOX are visible. The results typically last 3 – 4 months. Your aesthetician will be happy to talk to you about how often to schedule touch-up appointments at the Dermatology and Skin Cancer Institute to maintain your results.
