FEATURED TOPIC: HAND ECZEMA

This is the time of year we see some some skin conditions worsen or first show signs and symptoms. Hand eczema, also known as hand dermatitis, is one of those conditions. The skin may first just appear dry but can then quickly progress to becoming red and itchy or even painful. The skin can flake or peel, crack or even blister, and can affect the palm side or back sides of the hands. One or both hands can be affected and both males and females can suffer from it. Certain things can trigger this condition like exposure to chemicals and cleaning agents, frequent hand washing, and cold dry air. Genetics can also play a major role as well.

When patients seek treatment topical therapy in the form of corticosteroids are most commonly used. It is important to combine this treatment with use of bland emollients applied copiously as well as trying to reduce any stresses to the hands like avoiding hand sanitizers and hot water as well as reducing frequency of hand washing.

Use of winter gloves this time of year is greatly beneficial as well!

Also remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure so don’t skip the
hand cream daily??

How does one achieve great skin care?

Aside from exercise, a well-rounded diet, sleep, and plenty of hydration with water, there are 2 concepts at the heart of great skin care: Prevention and Reversal. How do we PREVENT skin aging? Our foundation should always start with a daily cleanser, moisturizer, antioxidant, sunscreen SPF 30 or higher, and a retinol product. Every 6-8 weeks we can enhance our preventative measures with facial treatments such as microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and microneedling treatments. Our products allow us to deliver anti-aging and protective ingredients to our skin. The facial treatments exfoliate the skin to help it “glow”, stimulate collagen, and enhance the diffusion of products into our skin. We would be happy to provide you with an assessment of your skin by our aesthetician. Learn great tips and get custom product and treatment recommendations to suit you! A minimally-invasive approach to REVERSAL of aging is using a combination of botox and fillers. Delivered by injection with tiny needle into the skin, Dr. Aradhna Saxena customizes a treatment plan for you to diminish fine lines and wrinkles and restore youthful volume. Botox treatments need to be done every 3 to 4 months, while filler treatments, every 6-12 months. A more invasive approach to reversal of aging is surgery. Dr. Aradhna Saxena and Dr. David Kasper do not perform cosmetic surgery, but are happy to refer you to excellent plastic surgeons if need be!
